Our at-home testing kit is a non-invasive, simple, and quick way to remove the guesswork if your dog has yeast.
Yeast infections/ dermatitis are a common issue in dogs with the main species of yeast that affects dogs being Malassezia which can live happily on a healthy dog.
The dogs immune system will usually keep yeast numbers in check however on occasions other factors such as foods and illness affecting the immune system and hormonal conditions can cause the Malassezia to develop in larger numbers causing an imbalance; leading to an infection.
When this happens some most commons signs of yeast can be,
- Itching
- Tear staining
- Recurring ear wax and irritation
- Licking of the paws which can lead to discolouration
- A smell even after bathing that’s been described as ‘cheese crisps’
- A damp and oily coat
The test is carried out using swabs with detailed instructions whereby you will swab your dog’s skin and return these swabs for analysis under a microscope by a third-party professional laboratory who will process it.
An email advising if yeast has been identified will be sent to you with 7 days of receiving your sample and your results can be directly sent to your vets by the lab if prior permission is provided in line with GDPR legislation.

Each kit contains: Instruction leaflet. 3x swab, 5x Impression tape (4 for samples plus 1 spare), information form, 2x Eco friendly compostable sample bags and a pre-paid envelope.
Instructions for use:
Swab Sample: 1. Using the swab provided, (the lid pulls off) wipe the cotton swab end around all of the areas of concern. . Once taken, place the swab into the tube and push the lid fully down. 3. Write your dogs’ name on the tube and the date.
Impression Tape: (Your kit contains 4 Tape Impressions plus one spare) 1. Peel back the paper side trying not to touch the sticky side of the tape. 2. On the area of concern, clear as much hair as possible and place the tape on to the area. Rub this with your finger so that it is pressed against the skin. 3. With your finger, rub over the top of the tape to ensure all of the tape touches the area of concern. Do this for each impression. 4. Once done, fold the impression tape in half, so that it sticks to itself. 5. Place your impression samples in to the small zip bag and seal.
Finally: Place your swab sample into the bubble wrap then place this and your Impression samples, and leaflet into the Feclab pre-paid returns envelope and pop it in a standard letter box.

Very simple instructions and easy to do, found tape for swabs a bit tricky maybe a tab on them would help. Did email for results after 10 days and someone sent them promptly across the same day.
